“R U Willing to Pay the Price?”

That was the question asked of the students who attended the Jr/Sr Conference.  Drug and alcohol use during the prom and graduation months tend to increase among the high school population.  The Perry County Community Task Force wants to encourage students to make the right decisions so they won’t have to pay the ultimate price.  John Chamness was Master of Ceremonies. This year the students watched the video “DUI: Dead in 5 seconds”.  This video told the story of a family who lost their son because someone else decided to make a wrong decision.  The father had a chance to speak with the individual who had taken his son’s life.

The students also witnessed a crash reenactment in which local students participated.

Carrie Brown was asked to speak at the conference.  She wanted to share her story with the juniors and seniors.  Carrie grew up here in Perryville and had her world turned upside down when she started making the wrong decisions.  Her life has been changed forever and that was the message she wanted to impress upon the students.  Carrie had to pay the price for the decisions she made and encourages others to not make the same mistakes she did.

Officers from local Probation and Parole were invited to speak as well.  They shared with the students what they would have to face if they were arrested and place in the judicial system.   Lynn Helmand and Jennifer Fulmer shared with the students how big a jail cell, the conditions you would have to live in if they were placed in jail, and they also showed them electronic devices people have to wear if the were under house arrest.
