YAP  was started in November 2004 in effort to help youth be successful with life changes.  Youth have an increased rate of success when they receive support and encouragement from their families.  Youth ages 5+ are encouraged to attend if their parents are also in attendance.  Childcare can be arranged for children under the age of 5.  Parent's and youth are involved in determining the topics to be addressed.  Only the youth and parent's themselves know what they need assistance with, therefore they are given the opportunity to express these needs.  Local qualified counselors/presenters are used for YAP presentations.  Topics may include:

                        Personality Types                                Anger Management
                   Balancing Responsibilities                        Managing Bullying
Understanding ADD, LD, etc                        Sibling Rivalry
                      Positive Discipline                          Creating Family Traditions
                Raising Responsible Youth                          Stress Management

Mental Health Counselors are present at each session and are available to parents during question/answer sessions.  While parents are in their session, you are in a separate session provided by the 4-H and University of Missouri Extension.  Youth are often provided with a fun learning session on similar topics that the parents are having, or a crafting activity depending on the age of the individual.  Five adults receive $10 gas certificates as incentives.  Court referrals have been made to the YAP program.
